Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund Supports 105 Needy but Brilliant Students
The Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund has provided educational support to more than 105 needy but brilliant students studying at universities across Ghana.
The support was disbursed under the initiative of the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, as part of efforts to assist students facing financial challenges in pursuing higher education.
A committee was established to oversee the selection of beneficiaries.
According to the committee, a large number of students applied for the support, but applicants went through an interview and selection process before the final beneficiaries were identified.
Committee explains selection process
Speaking to the media, the Public Relations Officer of the Fund, Mr Malik, said the committee worked to ensure that the selection process was transparent.
He said applicants were assessed against the criteria established for the support and maintained that the process was conducted without favouritism.
The selection process is significant because educational support programmes often attract large numbers of applicants, particularly students who face difficulties meeting tuition, accommodation and other academic expenses.
Overlord urges beneficiaries to take their studies seriously
The Overlord, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, urged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously and make effective use of the support provided to them.
The assistance comes at a time when financial pressures continue to affect many students pursuing tertiary education, particularly those from families with limited resources.
For the beneficiaries, the support could help ease some of the financial pressure associated with university education and allow them to remain focused on their studies.
Beneficiaries express appreciation
Students who benefited from the initiative expressed gratitude to the Fund, the selection committee and the Overlord for the assistance.
The beneficiaries said the support would contribute to their ability to continue their education and pursue their academic goals.
Beyond the immediate financial assistance, the initiative places traditional leadership within a broader conversation about education, youth development and opportunity in Gonja communities.
Education support and the future
Supporting students through tertiary education can have wider implications for communities when beneficiaries eventually return their skills and knowledge to society.
For the Gonja Kingdom and the wider Savannah Region, initiatives that help young people access and complete higher education can contribute to the development of a stronger pool of professionals across different sectors.
The Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund will therefore be worth watching as the programme develops, particularly regarding the number of students supported in future cycles, the categories of assistance provided and the longer-term impact on beneficiaries.
Gonja Pulse will continue to follow initiatives supporting education, youth development and community advancement across the Savannah Region and the wider Gonja area.
Are educational support programmes like this doing enough to help students from financially challenged backgrounds complete university?
