GMet Warns of Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms as System Moves Towards Savannah
Residents across the Savannah Region and other parts of northern Ghana have been urged to remain alert as the Ghana Meteorological Agency warns of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and gusty winds moving across the northern sector.
GMet's September 20 morning forecast says thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of the northern sector, with rainfall activity likely to intensify and affect more areas through the afternoon and evening.
A separate weather alert reported by MyJoyOnline said the system was approaching northeastern Ghana and was expected to affect the Upper East, North East and Northern regions before moving westwards towards the Upper West and Savannah regions.
Savannah among areas to watch
The weather system is expected to bring varying levels of rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds as it moves westwards.
For residents in the Savannah Region, the forecast is particularly relevant because the region is expected to be among the areas affected later in the day.
People living in flood-prone communities, motorists and residents travelling during periods of heavy rainfall are encouraged to exercise caution.
Road users urged to take care
The weather alert advises motorists to plan their journeys around the expected conditions and take extra care on roads where heavy rainfall could reduce visibility or create hazardous conditions.
Drivers should avoid attempting to cross flooded roads and low-lying bridges when water levels make the route unsafe.
Residents should also secure loose materials around homes and businesses where strong winds are possible.
Farmers and outdoor workers
Farmers, market traders and other people working outdoors should also take the weather conditions into account when planning activities.
The forecast is particularly important for communities whose daily activities depend heavily on outdoor work.
GMet has advised the public to continue monitoring official weather updates as conditions develop.
For emergencies, residents should use the appropriate emergency channels and follow instructions from relevant authorities.
Gonja Pulse will continue to provide updates on weather conditions affecting the Savannah Region and Northern Ghana.
Stay alert, plan carefully and prioritise safety as the weather system develops.
