Jinapor Reaffirms Mahama’s Commitment to Salaga Transmission Project at Kpembe Damba
Kpembe, SAVANNAH REGION — September 28, 2026: Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to the Salaga Transmission Project as he represented the President at the Kpembe Damba Festival and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the enskinment of Kpembewura Banbagne Ndefoso IV.
The occasion brought together traditional leaders, residents and other stakeholders to celebrate the cultural heritage and traditions of the people, while also marking a decade of Kpembewura Banbagne Ndefoso IV’s leadership.
According to Dr Jinapor, the government remains committed to projects that support sustainable development and improve the lives of people in communities across the area.
Salaga transmission project
Dr Jinapor said President Mahama remains committed to the development of the Salaga Transmission Project, which forms part of the broader Eastern Corridor transmission development.
The project includes a proposed 330kV double-circuit transmission line from the Adubiliyili area to Salaga, together with the construction of a new transmission substation at Salaga. The government says the investment is intended to strengthen the electricity transmission network and improve the reliability and quality of power supply to Salaga and communities along the Eastern Corridor.
GRIDCo's documented scope for Phase One of the Eastern Corridor Upgrade Project includes a 100-kilometre 330kV double-circuit transmission line from Tamale (Adubiliyili) to Salaga, initially operated at 161kV, as well as a new 330/161/34.5kV substation at Salaga.
The wider project is designed to strengthen transmission infrastructure along the Eastern Corridor, with additional phases covering other sections of the corridor.
For communities around Salaga and along the corridor, improved transmission infrastructure is expected to provide stronger network capacity and support more reliable electricity supply. The specific timing and implementation of the project, however, remain matters for the relevant government and transmission-sector authorities.
Celebrating Gonja culture and traditional leadership
Speaking in the context of the festival, Dr Jinapor also highlighted the importance of Ghana's cultural heritage and traditions.
The Kpembe Damba Festival provided an opportunity for the people to celebrate their heritage while honouring Kpembewura Banbagne Ndefoso IV on the 10th anniversary of his enskinment.
The celebration also underscored the longstanding relationship between traditional leadership and the people and the role of traditional institutions in community life.
The government has linked the cultural celebration with its broader development agenda, emphasising the need to preserve Ghana's traditions while pursuing infrastructure and other development initiatives.
The Salaga Transmission Project therefore formed part of the development message delivered during an occasion centred on culture, traditional leadership and the identity of the people of Kpembe.
