Tingawura’s Final Funeral Set for September 20 as Bolewura’s Delegation Meets Government

The final funeral rites of the late Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu, former Savannah Region representative on Ghana’s Council of State, have been scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Bole.

The date was formally conveyed to the Government of Ghana by a delegation from the Bole Traditional Area and the family of the late Tingawura during engagements in Accra.

According to information from the delegation, members of the team met with the Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House to officially notify the government of the date and the preparations for the final funeral rites.

The delegation also visited the Council of State at the State House to formally communicate the funeral arrangements to the institution on which the late Tingawura served as the elected representative of the Savannah Region.

Final funeral date confirmed

The delegation formally conveyed that the final funeral rites will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Bole.

The engagement forms part of the traditional and family arrangements leading to the final rites for the late traditional ruler and public servant.

The late Tingawura died on August 23, 2026.

The Presidency previously confirmed his death and reported that a delegation from the Gonja traditional leadership had called on President John Dramani Mahama to formally inform him of the development and discuss funeral arrangements.

Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu had served as the Savannah Region's representative on the Council of State, having been elected in February 2025 after securing 11 of the 14 votes cast by the region's electoral college.

The Ghana News Agency reported at the time that he was among the regional representatives elected to the Council of State.

Delegation represents Bole Traditional Area and family

The delegation undertaking the engagements in Accra comprises traditional leaders, public officials and representatives connected to the late Tingawura and the Bole Traditional Area.

Members listed by the delegation are:

  • Korlewura Seidu Kotomah
  • Kanyepewura Solomon Tampuri
  • Alhaji Dr Yussif Sulemana, MP for Bole
  • Madam Veronica Alele Heming
  • Mahama Haruna
  • Alhaji Sule Osman
  • Benjamin Larbi Haruna

Their engagements with the government and the Council of State form part of the traditional responsibility of formally notifying key institutions and stakeholders ahead of the final funeral rites.

Tingawura’s public service legacy

The late Tingawura was a traditional leader and public servant whose career extended beyond the Bole Traditional Area.

Before his election to the Council of State, he served as a District Chief Executive for the former Bole District and was also involved in administration, accounting and community development.

His election to the Council of State in 2025 gave him responsibility for representing the interests of the Savannah Region at Ghana's constitutional advisory body.

His death therefore generated mourning across the Bole Traditional Area and the wider Savannah Region.

The Bole Traditional Council previously described him as a respected traditional leader and a unifying figure in the community.

Bole prepares for the final rites

With the final funeral date now communicated to government and the Council of State, attention will turn to preparations for the September 20 rites in Bole.

The event is expected to bring together traditional leaders, family members, government representatives, political figures, colleagues, friends and sympathisers from the Savannah Region and beyond.

For Bole and the wider Gonja traditional area, the final rites will mark the conclusion of the funeral period for a chief who also served in a national public institution.

Gonja Pulse will continue to follow developments surrounding the preparations and provide updates as further official information becomes available.
