Yapei-Quarters CHPS Compound to Be Upgraded Into Modern Health Centre

Residents of Yapei and surrounding communities in the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency are expected to benefit from an upgrade of the Yapei-Quarters CHPS Compound into a modern health centre.

The project site has been handed over to a contractor, with work expected to begin immediately and be completed within six months, according to information from the project team.

The intervention is being facilitated through the office of the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu and Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor.

The handover ceremony was held at the Yapeiwura’s Palace and brought together representatives of the MP, the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, local leadership and technical officials.

Hon. Lawyer Rauf, Board Chairman of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, represented Dr Jinapor at the ceremony. The Executive Director of the Fund, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South and other technical officials were also reported to have attended.

What the project will change

The planned upgrade is expected to increase the capacity of the existing CHPS facility and improve access to healthcare for people living in Yapei and nearby communities.

For residents who currently depend on local health services, the transformation could mean access to a wider range of services closer to home.

However, the impact of the project will ultimately depend not only on the construction itself but also on the services, equipment and health personnel available when the facility is completed.

Ghana's health system relies heavily on CHPS compounds and health centres to provide basic healthcare at community level, particularly in rural areas.

In Central Gonja, where communities are spread across a large geographical area, strengthening facilities closer to residents can help reduce the distance people travel for essential healthcare.

Contractor promises immediate start

The contractor has reportedly assured officials and community leaders that work will commence immediately.

A six-month completion period has also been given for the project.

That timeline will now become an important benchmark for residents and local stakeholders to monitor as construction progresses.

For Gonja Pulse, the project will be followed beyond the handover ceremony.

The key questions will be whether construction remains on schedule, whether the facility is completed to the expected standard, and what additional healthcare services will eventually become available to residents.

Yapei community welcomes intervention

The Yapeiwura expressed appreciation for the intervention and commended those involved in bringing the project to the community.

The project comes at a time when healthcare infrastructure remains an important development priority for communities across the Savannah Region.

For Yapei residents, the immediate expectation is that the announced construction will translate into a functioning and properly equipped health centre within the stated timeframe.

The real measure of the project will therefore come when construction is completed and residents begin using the upgraded facility.

Gonja Pulse will continue to track the project and report on its progress.
