Mahama Takes Ghana’s Economic Agenda to London Africa Summit

President John Dramani Mahama has taken Ghana’s economic policy agenda to an international investment platform, with discussions expected to focus on Africa’s growth prospects, financing needs and opportunities for industrial development.

Mahama arrived in London on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, to address the Financial Times Africa Summit 2026, according to the Ghana News Agency.

The summit brings together African leaders, international business executives and institutional financiers to discuss economic opportunities and ways to mobilise investment across the continent.

Ghana’s economic agenda in focus

The President is expected to share perspectives on the opportunities and challenges shaping Africa’s economic future, including the need to attract capital and support inclusive growth.

For Ghana, such engagements provide an opportunity to present its economic priorities to potential investors and international financial institutions.

However, participation in an international summit does not automatically translate into investment. The impact will depend on whether discussions lead to concrete commitments, business partnerships and projects that create jobs.

Mineral processing and industrial development

The summit also comes amid the government’s stated ambition to expand domestic processing of Ghana’s natural resources.

President Mahama has previously announced a target of ending exports of unprocessed mineral ores by 2030, with the objective of retaining more value within the domestic economy.

The policy could create opportunities for manufacturing, mineral processing and related services, but implementation will require investment, infrastructure, reliable energy and clear regulations.

What happens next?

Following his engagements in the United Kingdom, Mahama is scheduled to travel to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, for the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa.

The President is expected to present the State of Security in Africa Report on October 24, 2026.

For Ghana, the key measure of success will be whether international engagement produces practical economic and diplomatic benefits.

Gonja Pulse will continue tracking developments in national policy and their implications for communities, businesses and development across Ghana.
